7.) Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it
to the full product?
Looking back at my preliminary
task, I have realised I have come a long way. There are several features wrong
with my preliminary task. The colour behind my main model is horrible, the text
goes over my models face along with a horrible stretched font in black which in
some parts makes it hard to read. I also included a boarded effect around the
cover and my main model goes over that making the boarder seem useless and not
needed. The masthead is really small and the barcode it massive. The contents
page of the preliminary task is even worse. I have used a horrible front where
the text is too big with no explanation below it so the reader doesn’t know
what they are reading alongside the numbers which are slanted and makes the
preliminary task feel rushed. The main model has some editing problems with
part of the zip cut out with the hair looking rough and looks like it didn’t take
long to edit the product.
My final product is much better than
this. I have used a filter effect on my model which makes him stand out from
other magazines and makes him look better with the effect than without. I have
also added a stroke to my main model, giving a boarder effect around him,
making him look nice and modern but also giving it a new, fresh feeling for a
Hip – hop magazine. I also placed the masthead down the side of the page with a
nice, bold title which is in lower case letters making it easy to read and
giving it a fresh feel. This is because a lot of magazine use capital titles
but my title works without capital letters and looks perfect the way it is. I
haven’t got any writing covering the models face like it does on the
preliminary task because I placed it further down so it is over his arm instead
of him. I have also changed the models positioning. This is because I didn’t
like having my model on his side and wanted to have another model take up the
whole page with their face.
For my contents page, I have
changed it drastically compared to my preliminary task. This is because I have
sized all of my writing and not used the same font and gone for something
modern and simplistic. I have also changed the colour scheme and made it blue,
grey and white. I also added in a top charts section on my magazine to make it
seem modern and original. This is a big difference compared to my preliminary
task where I only had around 50 words in total compared to having a top charts
section. I have also added in two small models instead of going for one big
model which covers up the whole on the contents page. This is because I wanted
more room for a touring section and a review section which tells the read what
is covered in this monthly issue. I also took away the boarded for both of them
because I didn’t like being confined in one small area and worked better with a
big, open area for me to experiment in.
Overall, I feel that I have
gained in experience and skills. Between the preliminary task and the final
product, I have made different drafts of my magazine with different effects
applied to my model. I have learnt how to present my magazine cover and what
makes the magazine good. I have also learnt where to place the text and not
place it over the models face.
